Christmas at 116 Pall Mall – your questions answered

Christmas party dinner set up with fairy lights
If you haven’t chosen where to hold your Christmas party or lunch this year, Jeremy Warrillow, who oversees the hospitality sales at the IoD, explains why 116 Pall Mall can provide a unique and memorable experience for you and your colleagues.

Why choose 116 Pall Mall?

Our central London position (with the Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square at the end of the road!) is ideally situated for getting your guests too and from the party.

The building is decorated for Christmas and creates a warm setting to any event. The bronze portico flambeaux, situated just outside the entrance, can also be lit to enhance the effect.  The variety of rooms available across the building allows a great flexibility of size and style, from an intimate dinner-for-two in the restaurant, to a majestic occasion for 250 in the classical Nash Room.  Diners can escape the party and enjoy a gin cocktail in the relative informality of the wine bar.

All the rooms can be individually decorated. Our functions team are on hand to help with all requests, and the sales team have established relationships and supplier rates with local hotel and concierge services to help you create an all-inclusive experience.

What makes it a unique venue?

The neoclassical architecture and sweeping grand staircase, which was featured in Downton Abbey, provide a stunning entrance to the main function rooms, contrasting to the old vaulted brick wine cellars dating back to the 19C. The striking Art Deco Café Duke was used as a setting for the Hollywood blockbuster The Dark Knight, which transforms into an intimate party space for smaller numbers.  The range of rooms and flexibility of the spaces allow a number of events to happen across the building.

What will be on the menu for this Christmas?

The traditional British Christmas menus come with a glass of IoD House Champagne from the Beaumet estate in Epernay, and our delicious Chilean Miraflores house wines.  In the restaurant we will be serving pheasant alongside the turkey on our three-course all-inclusive menu. The IoD cellar contains a number of gems including a Rully white, which goes perfectly with turkey, as well as our signature claret, Chateau Terrefort de Quancart.

Do you offer any special packages?

The packages available across the building allow you to create a day or night as you wish.  Christmas reception prices are very competitively priced and start from £59 for two hours of drinks and canapés. To include dinner starts from £89.  The building is decorated but we would be delighted to accommodate our clients on any additional theming.  The function rooms, in particular, work well as a blank canvas and can be readily transformed.

Can rooms be hired at weekends and weekdays?

Yes, except the Carlton, which is only available from 5pm during the week.  Otherwise, everything else is available.

What are the minimum and maximum size rooms available?

With capacities ranging from 10 to 400 people, our exquisite rooms can be hired individually or as a combination, as many are interlinking. All rooms receive natural daylight and have air conditioning.

For example, St James Room 2 has a maximum capacity of 30 people for dinner and 50 people for a drinks reception. The historic Nash room, which was featured in the Oscar-winning film Gandhi, can accommodate 250 people for dinner and 400 for drinks.

Can we have music and dancing?

Absolutely! The venue is licensed until 1am. We have a semi-grand Bechstein piano in the Carlton room, the Café Duke provides a great dancing area, and all the reception rooms can accommodate for dance floors.
