How to make your 2021 Christmas party extra special post-Covid

Whether it’s another soiree on screen or we’re able to be together (and hug! And dance!) this year – here's our top tips on how to throw a Christmas party you’ll never forget.

Remember your why

We’ve all had a tough 18 months, and many of us had our festive get-together last year via a computer screen, leaving some feeling like it was just another meeting in the diary. This year, it’s important to remember that your Christmas party is so much more than just an excuse to let your hair down and should be something that your employees and colleagues not only look forward too, but recognise that they’ve earned and deserve.

Budgets have been tight for a lot of businesses over the last year, but we’ve all worked so hard to overcome every challenge we’ve faced with a smile, and so this party is the perfect way to truly thank your staff for everything they’ve done for your brand this year.

Be prepared

The thing to remember about throwing a party your staff can’t wait to get to is that some of them won’t wait! Make sure your venue and any welcome refreshments and music is set up as far in advance as you can, as timings can run away from you in the party planning world, and your excited colleagues might not stick to your carefully planned schedule!

Above that, it’s even more crucial to be prepared in terms of organising your party in the first place! Never wait until November or December to make your booking - our team at 116 Pall Mall have been taking enquiries for Christmas gatherings of all shapes and sizes for months, so chances are other popular venues in your area have too, so be prepared to make your booking in the next few weeks to secure your spot!

Find the perfect venue

Ordinarily, hosting your office Christmas party in the same office you all head into five days a week can be budget friendly, but also a bit underwhelming. This year will be different, however, as actually being in your own building will be the novelty factor! It can be exciting and inspiring to branch out from your own four walls, and if your organisation has downsized from it’s own premises to co-working space or working fully remotely this year, choosing a venue for your party that really makes an impact can lift everyone’s spirits.

Size doesn’t matter..

It’s a myth that a Christmas party is only worth going to if it’s packed to the rafters with colleagues, business partners, entertainers, hospitality staff, DJ’s.. the works! As we’ve discovered over the last 18 months with weddings, small, intimate gatherings are just as – if not more! - memorable, so don’t feel that your slimmed-down workforce isn’t worthy of a special bash.

The same goes with themes – whether you’re going all out with a roaring ‘20s theme to shake off the cobwebs of lockdown, or planning a smaller, quieter party with a focus on great catering, or a certain special guest, don’t be led by trends or what other organisations in your industry are doing for their party – this is a celebration of the professional and personal sacrifices made and successes shared over a really difficult period, so make sure your event reflects that, and is worthy of your brilliant team.
